Speaking more languages has obvious practical benefits in an increasingly globalized world. In spite of all the benefits, could we say that bilingualism only has advantages or does it also have disadvantages?
First of all, bilingualism has been seen by scholars as an advantage to a developed brain. Learning and speaking a different language expose us to a different world and improves our perception.
In my opinion one of the reasons why it is important to know more than one language is that it increases cultural awareness and allows you to communicate with different people and improve your communication skills.
On the other hand, when bilingual people speak is not unusual for them to mix the different languages together when they are having a conversation and they can even create new non-existent words.
In addition, bilinguals may use an expressions in one languages that could have a different connotation in other and could be offensive.
As far as I am concerned, bilingualism is a great advantage that is not only useful in laboral terms, is also a big tool to learn about other culture.
